About the role
The Director, Aboriginal Health is responsible for overseeing the provision of Aboriginal Health Services that are culturally safe and effectively interface with GEO Healthcare's broader primary healthcare services to enhance the health outcomes of Aboriginal people in prison.
The Director Aboriginal Health is also responsible for providing expert advice on First nations health matters to the General Manager and Senior Leadership Team of GEO Healthcare which contributes to ensuring all services provided to Aboriginal people in prison are culturally safe.
Based at GEO Healthcare’s Head Office in Melbourne CBD, and reporting to the General Manager the Director, Aboriginal Health will lead a team of Aboriginal Health Professionals located across Victoria, requiring regular travel intrastate.
Base Salary of $164.000 + Superannuation per annum on a full-time basis.
Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate will have:
Essential:
- Have Aboriginal ancestry, self-identify as an Aboriginal person and be recognised as an Aboriginal person by the Aboriginal community in which they live or have lived.
- Hold Registration as a Health Professional with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (or equivalent).
- Undergraduate and post-graduate qualifications related to Aboriginal health or culture are highly desirable.
- Experience in operationally managing complex health services.
- Extensive experience and exceptional verbal, interpersonal and negotiation skills that ensure positive relationships are established and maintained with staff, the client and stakeholders.
- Proven ability to contribute to and/or lead and maintain highly performing and productive teams and successfully implement change within work environments.
- Extensive experience in the development, implementation and monitoring of clinical policy, procedures and practice.
- Extensive experience in health service accreditation
Other Requirements of the role:
- Ability to work within a correctional setting, which may involve direct contact with prisoners associated with the delivery of healthcare.
- Valid and current full Australian driver’s license.
- Satisfactory completion of a National Criminal History Check.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Working outside of ordinary business hours may be required.
